The Byblos area- History & More

One of the oldest continuously inhabited cities of the world (near 7000 years), Byblos boasts a beautiful centuries old town and is home to the world famous Byblos International Festival www.byblosfestival.org. It is also home to one of the best Lebanese Universities (Lebanese American University) and to 2 hospitals, one of them being a leading regional university hospital (Notre Dame de Secours). It is also the administrative capital city of the Jbeil region (Kada'a) that is made up of numerous coastal townships & villages.

Byblos-Jbeil lies along the coast and is a true melting pot of the various Lebanese religions & sects with historic churches & mosques. It was also the departing point to ship Lebanese Cedar woods from the village of Jaj (still home to a 300 strong cedar reserve) to build the temple of Salomon in Jerusalem.
